After the past couple of days of rain, the day was sunny and blustery. Some might say that it feels like fall. We may see single digits during the night this week and that would be nice.
It was a busy day today. I have a case of the sniffles which started a couple of days ago so today I went to get some medication because my nose is runny and sniffly.
I ran errands earlier today and did some supermarket safari and came home and farted around for a few hours before I had to leave for Vendome. The bus ride out was chaotic. With construction all over the place and bus stops moved here and there, people were all over the place.
Over at Vendome the road out front is all torn up and blocked off which disrupts all the local bus service for that Metro station. Foot and car/bus traffic is being rerouted around an active construction site.
I was the first to arrive at Vendome for set up and coffee making. It was a fair showing for the first of two meetings we were going to attend tonight. Our topic came from A.B.S.I. and “Daily Reprieve.”
“We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.” B.B. Pg. 85
There was a good amount of silence around the table and when I spoke I was all over the place. Remembering to keep it simple, I call to mind the words of the young man who brought me back into the fellowship …
” I did not drink today!”
I have all this knowledge in my head of what to do and what not to do. I have a multitude of lessons I have learned over the last almost 12 years and I all of those lessons are in my head. Daily practice is repetition. Morning “please” and nightly “thank you” is standard. I do the next right thing and I work with others and I am present. And I try not to take life and sobriety for granted.
We departed Vendome bound for the 24 bus and a quick hop to St. Leon’s for the Big Celebration of the night. It was Uber sober woman’s 16th cake, along with a bevy of other cakes ( A 1 year, a 2 year, a 16 year and a 19 year cake) that fell on this evening. Sponsors were here from New York and Montreal. The place was packed and it was standing room only.
Lots of cake and fellowship.
It was good to see familiar faces. The girls really know how to do it right.
A short walk home and we were done for the night.
A good night was had by all.
More to come, stay tuned …
