The weather is slowly starting to get better. We are still in the mid teens on the minus side at night, and single minus digits during the day. And by next Wednesday, snow or rain, with a temp of PLUS (2c) …This would be our first positive temp all season long.
Usually, as seasons go, by the end of winter, temps rise enough for rain to fall, which begins washing away snow, salt and all that crap that has been buried for the entire season.
The negative, is all the trash, cigarette buts, and clutter that has been buried all winter appears out of the snow. Which sends city workers into a frenzy to clean it all up, which takes a long time.
Today was a mixed bag. I really had no plans for the day, but I knew when I hit the end of the dream that was going on in my head, as I lay in bed, I wasn’t going to stay in bed any longer. So I got up.
I had thought of doing laundry over the weekend, but I had plenty of time to do it this afternoon, so I dropped my laundry into a machine, did my grocery shopping and cleaned up around, I killed several birds at once. I set them to dry and came back down and showered and I was in a Spring Shopping Mood, and I have been “Spring Shopping” online for a few days now, Looking, Listing and Saving stuff for future purchase.
A Wish List is a useful tool.
I know better than to impulse shop before I’ve investigated my options. So while my clothes were drying, I took a stroll to a new sneaker shop that recently opened, up the block. They paid good money to have someone come and paint a huge mural on the side of the building that faces my building, it was a good visibility decision. (but now they are building a super condo building just beside it which is going to ruin its visibility).
High End Sneakers is Big Business.
Usually, you get a sneak peek, or a shop will pop up in a city for a limited run, or there are underground high end shops located in several cities world wide, that are not known by the general public and only for those who “know” where they are and know the code word to get past the front door. (That is a thing)
In the past, I’ve had to employ good sleuthing to find sneakers online. My Tumblr and Google, and Ebay and a bank account are what I use today. So I went to this store. There were two guys having a conversation in French, while I browsed. Neither acknowledged me in the store.
They had a select line of sneaker, some more ostentatious than others, the wilder the style, the higher the price. Prices ranged from $150 cad to $250 cad. That was way out of my budget. I saw variations on styles I already own, but nothing I considered buying. It was a short visit.
I returned home and resorted to my original thought. I opened Ebay and began to surf. The Spring line is out across the web, and I had a list of stuff I had seen online recently. There were several styles that I was looking at, by color, style, maker and price.
I ended up with the sneaker pictured above. Men’s Adidas, D Rose 3.5 Black, Red and White.
I am an Adidas man, Shoes, Clothing and Sports gear. These rare shoes clock in a $160.00. I had a refund sitting in my account for twenty dollars, and these came to a final price of $68.00 plus shipping, which brought it close to $100.00. I paid less than $100.00 in total. I made my sale before 5 p.m. And as I walked of of the meeting at 9 p.m. They had already been shipped.
Same day service is a plus.
We left for the meeting, thankful that it was warmer than it has been at night, recently. The same crowd of intrepid meeting goers came. The speaker came from one of our rehab houses here in the city.
This particular site offers a 3 month series, in house meetings, counselors, meals, a place to live and they work you into meetings, as you go along. Some don’t want to be there, but some do.
Some make it, but many don’t.
After you complete your stay, you take a two year aftercare journey, which is mandatory for every person there. You are on a short leash.
So all in all, the run lasts for almost 3 years start to finish.
Meeting Makers make it.
We heard “Insanity” for almost an hour. I was waiting for the moment of clarity, so was my friend.
The one thought that got my attention, was his take on “TIME.”
While he was out there, drinking and using and hurting all the wrong people, he lost things; jobs, homes, girlfriends, and so on. His coping skill was to just “wait it out” and somewhere in his head he thought that if he just waited long enough, things would get better.
His drinking and using escalated. His girlfriend dumped him and married someone else. His using got even worse, if it could get any worse, from what he had already detailed for us. He tried to “wait it out” thinking that she would leave her husband and come back to him.
How many of us, when we are in the thick of it, try “waiting this out, not really hoping for an end to what ails us, but a wait and see, without the expectation of resolution.”
The end finally came. Honesty dawned upon him. And he told on himself.
He got the help he so desperately needed. Now he is clean and sober almost three years. He is still inside the treatment program, but he gets out to his home group, which is on the West End of the city, and he came to us tonight.
When we get sober, “TIME” takes on new meaning.
I learned this lesson the hard way, walking into my first meetings here with expectations on my list of things I thought I wanted. WRONG !!!
It was good, those first few months in Miami that we counted days. I went just to make sure my friends stayed and came each night to count their days. Out of twenty newbies, nineteen made it.
Counting days, is something we don’t do here, because there aren’t many meetings, on consecutive days at the same location, to be able to do that properly. There are a couple, but not seven days or nights a week.
Sobriety is a full time, Four Season, Make it or Break it kind of job.
People count their days with their sponsors. And at certain meetings, we give consecutive month chips. This goes for the M.A. side of things as well. For the most part, we count 30, 90, six months, then the year mark. And multiples thereafter.
We learn, in the beginning, if you are lucky, the lesson about 24 hours in a day, and One Day At a Time.
Time takes on new meaning.
And if you are really lucky, time turns around for you and instead of working against you,
Time works For You.
We learn patience, which takes time. We learn compassion, which takes time.
And we get sober. That definitely takes time.
The more time you put in, the more you get out of it. It’s all about attitude.
You either bemoan getting clean and sober, or you embrace it. If you embrace it, the much needed attitude adjustment begins to take place. That is the miracle of the program.
We move from waiting for the hell to end, to hoping for the good to come.
Everyone has their journey he said. Some take longer to get here. Some make it, some don’t.
He wanted the help. Had he gone a few days longer, his life expectancy was in real danger.
Grateful for his life today, he is alive, happy, joyous and free.
And don’t we all want to be Happy, Joyous and Free ?
Everybody is sober tonight.
Next week, I will have all my guys in the same city again. Saturday my first takes his year.
I am a blessed man. God is good to us. He has moved heaven and earth for my guys.
And I am grateful.
More to come, stay tuned …
I just UN-bagged my Borussia Dortmund gear that I ordered from UK Soccer Shop.
They have the BEST gear, at the Right price. And if you are wise, and like a deal, stuff goes up on sale at certain times. And that’s the time to buy …
The availability of Soccer Gear in North America is non-existent. You can’t buy soccer gear from any seller that serves the U.S. or Canada. It is just not a market they cater to. You have to go off continent to find reputable, top of the line, Soccer Gear seller. Or you go to Ebay.
The U.K., and all points East is where you have to go to find gear. Then you have to find a purchase model that works for you, then there is the currency conversion in the end.
I must also say that the quality of their stock is fantastic. I’m really loving this jersey. And like I said a few days ago, it would not surprise me if Marco’s stock starts to rise sooner than later.
Now I have the Germany Mario Gotze World Cup jersey #19 and the sox to match.
I have F.C. Bayern Munich Mario Gotze jersey #19 and the sox to match
I also have BVB Borussia Dortmund Marco Reus jersey #11 and the sox to match.
And this spring, when it gets warmer, I can purchase all the shorts to go with those kits and make them complete. I am one German Jamming Man.
The exchange rate from Canadian Dollars to Pound Sterling or the Euro is not so hot right now, but an investment is an investment. If a deal appears, you can’t say no to a deal.
And we get GOL tv on our cable package. So I get European games here at home.
Online retail pays off in certain cases. If I see a certain products; clothing, shoes, sox, sneakers, cleats, etc… on the web, like on Tumblr, or on a player, let’s say, I can plug that into Google and find a seller. I also run it through Ebay at the same time. I got World Cup Gear on Ebay for a steal. Then when Mario came up, at the World Cup, I found UK Soccer Shop, and I have been shopping with them ever since.
They carry Gear from all over the world. They have great customer service. They ship world wide, and most importantly, you can use Pay Pal, which does not require a credit card. All of my online purchase points are Pay Pal sellers.
With my Ebay account, I can shop world wide, and thanks to Google Translate, I can shop on Euro sites, which sell by the Euro, which is sometimes expensive. You can find great quality clothing in Europe that you can’t get anywhere else in the world.
Pay Pal, You can do business World Wide and never have to resort to credit again.
**** **** ****
You know the phrase, “The customer is always right?” right?
Back in December I made a purchase from a certain company here in the city. It was not the first purchase I have made from them, that I was dissatisfied with. In past cases, I just ate it. In this most recent case, gear I purchased (molded silicone) (@$30.00) ripped apart and was rendered useless.
I’ve since found more than one purchase point, selling the same item, for the same price. They are in the U.S., so you have to calculate the exchange rate at time of purchase. I looked online at the shop in the village for the same product, and it came in at twice the price, but with a reputable source.
I’ve since asked for a refund, of the original item, priced at $30.00, and the answer has since been NO. Since I made that purchase with Pay Pal, I have opened a complaint ticket. Now they know I’ve got a defective product, and if I get no response, (which I have yet to get from the seller) I can escalate it further.
So with that said, last week I went to the village and spent twice that amount ($60.00) I spent on the above purchase for the same product, just better quality from a reputable company in Europe.
These kinds of items come with proviso’s.
Not all of them that come off production lines are 100% reliable.
Once again, tomorrow I have to travel into the village to return said item, because it has ripped apart and it is only a few days old. I’m sure they will exchange it without a problem. It just seems to me that every time I venture into this territory, something inevitably goes wrong.
I guess sometimes, “The customer is not always right …”
Update: This morning I was up early and went to the village, got there a bit before opening, but they did refund my purchase, without a word. $64.00 in the bank … Woosh …
There is a theme here, it will become apparent as we go along.
The weather is getting markedly cooler. We are sitting at a tremulous 13c at this hour, with a low of 8c forecast for overnight. And for the next few nights, we will hit single digits as well.
Tonight’s topic was all about CHANGE …
And as I began typing this entry, I got an email from the seller of the Mario Gotze German Jersey that I bought this morning. I did not get my first size choice, but I took second choice and he threw in an Argentine Messi Jersey for free for the lack of stock that I wanted originally.
But I am getting ahead of my story here, so let me back up …
Lately our ISP has become nightmarish. Since hubby started his new job, we have been furiously trying to regain ground by paying backed up bills in large chunks, which leaves little wiggle room for spending and food. This week, we have a wider berth and I got some play money out of it.
Two weeks ago, we had a payment arrangement with our ISP. The night before the payment was due, around 12:30 a.m. in the morning, the ISP shut off our internet. When they do that, you can’t navigate anywhere, you just get their “please call us – it’s important page.” Well that pissed me the fuck off.
The next morning the payment was made, and they turned us back on.
Last night (Wednesday) the same thing happened again. A payment arrangement was made with a promise that they would NOT turn us off again. (READ: THEY LIED !!!) I was sitting here doing some very important internet sleuthing about some purchases I wanted to make and the internet went dead.
Hubby was already sleeping, but he got up for cookies and I said that the internet was turned off again, needless to say, that pissed HIM the fuck off. I was not happy at all. This morning he called and made the payment as agreed, at the total they requested, then they turned us back on again.
I got up early in the morning because I was on a BUY deadline. Which leads to the jersey story. If you go online and search Gotze jerseys, (One) the price varies from location to location. (Two) if the jersey was on the field, or near the field, the price was much greater. (Three) If the jersey was signed it was astronomical.
I paid a pittance for my jersey, and got a free second jersey for the size mix up. I took a photo copy of the Gotze jersey from the Ebay listing, and when I saved it, the file name was $75.00, which must mean that this original jersey was much more expensive, than the price I paid for it.
Just because something is on the internet, doesn’t guarantee that you can buy it right off.
Adidas is a sponsor of many soccer teams and their star players, from boots, to clothing to other assorted items. I wanted the GOTZE jersey, and if I could get them, the German team socks, because I am having a love affair with all things German as of late. I’ve been buying a lot of clothing from Germany as of late. Expensive, but well worth the price. Because you can’t get them anywhere else.
There was an article I read online which listed the assorted sellers of German gear.
I chose the easiest one … ADIDAS…
I went to the site last night, opened an account and carted my sock purchase. I thought it was going to be a cut and dry process. This morning I went back to my account and filled out the buy form. I soon realized that it defaulted to Great Britain, and would not let me enter Canada.
Flummoxed… I signed on to the chat service and spoke to an agent who then told me I could only shop on the site associated with Canada/U.S., and not the U.K. Just because it is on the internet, doesn’t necessarily mean that you can buy it.
I go to the Canada/U.S. site, and there is NOT ONE German soccer related item to be had.
Well, if you can’t get it on the Internet, it HAS been proven that if you really want it, then your next stop is EBAY. I can attest to the fact that almost every retail item I have bought that I can’t get local, came from EBAY.
And wouldn’t you know it, there was a U.K. seller, selling the socks I wanted about a pound fifty more than the Adidas site was selling at. They were selling on my side of Ebay so I could buy them, and they only had one pair left. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and just BUY IT …
- The Gotze jersey is a Large instead of an XL.
- I got a free Argentina – Messi jersey for the mix up
- Shipping was FREE on that sale
- I got the last pair of Germany Team Socks
- I spent $65.00 in total. Not a bad haul for one day !!!
After a successful shopping trip abroad, I came back to earth. We needed groceries, and I needed coin for laundry. It rained all afternoon. We have 7 washers and 7 dryers. They are located on the Penthouse floor (20th floor). The exhaust pipe for the dryers goes outside to the roof. When it is muggy and/or rains, you need more coin to dry than usual… UGH !!!
I finished my chores around 3 and took a short power nap. I would have preferred a couple hours or so, but you take what you can get. We had a great wind storm during the rain, and we are on the 17th floor. When the wind blows it shakes the windows and the building buckles. Listening to the wind hit the building is quite unnerving.
I took off early to make stops at the mall on the way, and cranked it out and sat on the stoop for almost an hour before folks began showing up. We read from Daily Reflections. June 8 …
Opening up to change.
The book says that “The only thing you have to change when you get sober is EVERYTHING!!!”
And every day we get a daily reprieve contingent upon our spiritual condition.
The reading speaks of many things like Letting Go and Letting God. Surrender, and Belief.
We talked about relationships being like a garden from which our character defects grow. And I added to that thought that, in my garden, I like to pour MIRACLE GROW on my character defects.
We are all learning about ourselves, no matter how long or young we are in sobriety. Lots of folks on Step 4 from the Men’s Intensive format.
If you really want to learn about yourself, get into a relationship, better yet, step it up and marry that person. This year marks 10 years of marriage for us. And 12 years of being together. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my husband. From one end of the spectrum to the other.
It is a good sign that we can spend inordinate amounts of time sitting in the same room together, and not want to kill each other, and knowing that we KNOW each other, so well, that not one unnecessary word is spoken. Nor has to be spoken.
A rainy day opened up to a breezy beautiful, but rather cool evening.
We all think that jackets may be required from this point on …
It was a good day. A little Yin and a little Yang …
More to come, stay tuned …
It is Thursday night, on the last night in May and the month of June is almost upon us. The week have been eventful, as I have written. Hubby’s 40th birthday will fall on the 6th, and he is trying to forget it is coming. No parties, no gifts no mention of the BIG 40 !!! I have to explain what it means to turn 40 and what happens next. He isn’t very happy about turning 40, at all …

Do you shop on EBAY?
When you search an item, and you find one you like, do you automatically bid or buy that item without reading the item description fully? No ???
I put an item up for sale last week and the item was damaged when I bought it. I never used it and it sat in a box under my dining room table from the time I bought it until the time I put it up for sale.
The one thing I did not do was put up a picture of the minor damage to the item so bidders could see what I was talking about. But that is not the issue here. I wrote up my item specifically. I duly noted the damage and all that information was up on the front page.
A bidder in Ontario found my listing and he bid on the item, and he subsequently won said item. He didn’t read the item description – he didn’t know about the damage to the item, and then he paid for said item and I shipped it to him. When it arrived 2 days ago, he freaked out opening a case for a refund because item did not match the description. He wrote that I tried to rip him off, when he clearly did not read the item properly or at all.
(HAD he READ the description-He would have known right?)
He made a fuss, and opened a case against me and had the audacity to request a refund, which was my policy, if you aren’t pleased with your item, in this case, I would refund your purchase price. He said I didn’t note properly. I replied to him that he could not read correctly. Which he didn’t read at all.
I address the box, with the delivery address and my return address on the front of the box. Then he writes me and tells me that he can’t find my return address,
( WHICH IS ON THE FRONT OF THE FUCKING BOX !!!) IDIOT !!!
So he fucked up my Paypal account. Only the day before I deposited all my sales profits into my bank account and now I had to pull over a hundred dollars from my bank account to cover the negative balance over on PayPal. EBAY warned me not to refund his money till the item arrives back here. But I want to make a purchase, on a pair of running shoes for my marathon training and I have this god damned issue hanging over my account now. I just want to get it over with, I am waiting for the money to transfer and as soon as that happens I am going to just bite the bullet, knowing this asshole re-mailed the item back to me from Ontario, it will get here next week.
I HATE STUPID PEOPLE !!!
I have two other items up for sale. And I have to tell you that for the most part people are smart and intelligent. But for some cases I get some of the most stupid questions from people, you’d think, DID YOU READ THE POSTED INFO?
IDIOTS !!! ALL IDIOTS !!!

On Wednesday I went to the mall because I wanted to see what retail had to offer in the form of running shoes, price and style wise. And I have to say that the choices were slim running. I walked into the store and was standing in the shoe department, and a young man was helping some folks, clearly Francophone.
I waited. He helped more people who walked over there in front of me, once again, clearly Francophone. He was very chatty and helpful. I stood up from where I was sitting and he walked over to me, and I opened the conversation, no less, in English. He didn’t seem interested in helping me. I asked to see two shoes and he brought me one. He didn’t wait to help me. He went over to help other folks who were standing there.
The shoes were pricey. I told him that I was going to take them and I walked towards the cash. Then I decided not to take them because I had this invoice action against me and I carried the shoes back to him and handed him the box. Then I came home.
I found a much cheaper and more stylish pair on EBAY which is sitting on my watch list at the moment. And as soon as I clear this open case, I can make a clear purchase.

Grasshopper asked me to write him an attestation letter for a legal matter he is taking care of and so this morning I was up with the birdies to go to the morning meeting, it was a business meeting day for the group, I sat outside until they were through.
The topic this morning was:
… Our society has concluded that it has but one high mission – to carry the A.A. message to those who don’t know there’s a way out.
Twelve and Twelve pg. 151
Page 151 in the 12 and 12 is right at the beginning of the 5th tradition.
Each group has but one primary purpose – to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
I was sitting in my chair with Madame bijoux on my right and grasshopper on my left. The chair opened the floor to sharing and I waited. When it got to grasshopper he opens his mouth and it was like he went into my brain and took the words right out of my mind… And I said under my breath, you stole my topic … and we all laughed.
The reading centered around serving others. That’s when the tie to the 5th tradition comes up. It being May and all. I commented that it was when I learned how to put the needs of another before my own, was when I became an adult. And so it goes, You can’t help someone if you are self serving, selfish or self centered. And I’ve learned long and hard that if I want it, I have to give it away.
Grasshopper and I got to Micky D’s for breakfast after the meeting which was a nice treat. He dropped me back home and I farted around until it was time for my disco nap with hubby.
It has been a quiet night. The air is cool outside. It was cloudy for a while and sprinkled here and there, but the clouds have blown away. There is more rain in the forecast for the weekend.
Many people are still mopping up from Tuesday’s flooding. And a lot of those people are getting screwed by insurance companies because the city is to blame for the sewers not working correctly therefore all these homes and businesses got flooded and cars got wrecked by flood water. And the city is not taking the blame very nicely. They are calling it an act of God, not a city wide maintenance issue. It isn’t fair.

The student negotiations with the government failed tonight and so the strike and protests will continue as usual. The Grand Prix set for next weekend was targeted by Anonymous and they hacked the payment website and posted all their information online. And threats went out to those coming to Montreal to beware and to be prepared for protests and marching would take place during the Grand Prix.
This isn’t good. The government did not rise to the occasion, but paid lip service to the student negotiators, and the Premier did not get directly involved, as he was requested to do so, so that tells us that Jean Charest was in no way going to sit down and negotiate this settlement the way he should have.
There is a call for an election in the next 13 months. I say sooner than later, let’s get this guy out of office and do what is right for the city and the students. Because it is only going to get ugly once tourists start coming for summer festivals and events. Tourism is going to take a huge hit now. The city is going to get screwed in the long run.

Tomorrow is Friday, hopefully I can take care of my Ebay issue and do some shopping and sort that fuck up out. We shall see. Other than that, there is nothing on the books for the weekend yet.
And that’s the kind of week it’s been. More to come, stay tuned …
They say that every so often you should open a blank page and try to write something cohesive. So here is my blank page and a photo to go with it.
Are these guys playing B-Ball, and the game has been paused while they sit there on the court all relaxing and chilling? There are spectators in the stands but the MTV shirts could be a giveaway that they are not really ball players. What are they looking at and what is that grin all about on the boy in the white trunks?
I like this photo. Sometimes you find a photo that kind of speaks to you and you re-post it. I try to find photos that you could tell a story about or figure out what is going on in the photo.

The skies are clear over the city and it has been a quiet week so far. I haven’t dine much this week. We usually follow the same routine every day, we get up, fart around online, watch some tv and then hit the sack for a mid afternoon nap before hitting round two of farting around online and watching more tv.
The only channel we watch these days is MSNBC. It is all politics all day every day and into the night. There are hits of other shows that are interspersed in our daily routine like Community and 30 Rock.
Right now Mick Jagger is singing live on SNL which is a Saturday night ritual in our house. It is the season finale tonight and it is speculated that a few of the cast members will be leaving the show after tonight’s episode.
The summer television season will begin soon and that means So You Think You Can Dance and Big Brother … We don’t really watch any other live reality type tv shows. Although CBS does own the market on reality tv.

What else can I write about?
I had a really interesting dream the other day during one of my naps. It involved a good friend of mine and another friend whom I am acquainted with from the blog sphere. It was one of those naughty but nice dreams that went on for a long time.
I kept trying to hold onto it as long as I could when I realized that I was in the middle of a lucid dream. I have to say that it was pretty vivid and I carried it out of the dream and into waking hours. It is not usual that I can carry a dream out into waking. I usually forget them right after I wake up.
Let’s just say that if I ever get to meet Ruff face to face, we will have a lot to talk about. It must be that the zip up combat boots I bought from him must be enchanted with some kind of sex spell. They are infused with the memories of many leather oriented events while he owned them, and that energy must be pouring out of them into my feet.
It has been a great week for EBAY. All of the items I put up on the site sold and two pairs of motorcycle boots I put up are bid on and will sell come the end of next week. So I am poised to make a fair amount of change from this purge from my closet.
Speaking of purging my closet, this spring we are cleaning house in the hopes that in a few months we will be making the big move up in the city. Which means that all those old clothes that we haven’t worn in more than a year can go to Renaissance. Renaissance is an organization that collects used good from the community and turns them around in reintegrating folks into the community and the workplace. So all the goods you donate go to people who can use them right away.
I have to clear out the balcony of boxes of crap that we haven’t touched since we put them out on the balcony. Living in a high rise building, there really isn’t a place to throw away trash, except what goes down the trash dump. Each floor has a trash drop that goes into a main drop in the basement. There are several recycling dumpsters in the basement so we will be inundating them with old shit that we no longer need or want. This will all pay off when we move because we won’t be moving all that shit.
What are you doing for your community? And what changes are you going to make at home to free up the clutter in your life and try to simplify things. I am reading a book called “The Way is Made by Walking” written by Arthur Paul Boers, he is a Mennonite minister here in Canada.
It is all about his journey to France and Spain to walk 500 miles from St. Jean Pied du Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This is one of many pilgrimage journeys people from all over the world walk every year. There are a few pilgrimage points like Iona and Lindesfarne, the Holy Land and Rome.
From the European continent you can step out your front door in your respective town or village and find a “Flecha” and start your journey all the way to Compostela. People from all over Europe have walked from their respective countries to Spain over weeks, months and years. Several times a year a group from Montreal makes the journey. I attended one of those meetings at Concordia a few years ago, but I never followed up on it.
I think the one pilgrimage that I am going to make this year is to Cape Town South Africa. I am really looking forwards to going on this trip and also in what I will find and learn when I get there. My host is a world traveler himself and I will finally get to sit down with him and listen to some of his stories that we have only chatted about via email.
Pilgrimage is about transformation. And I am trying, ever so slowly to begin transforming our lives in new ways in preparation for our next step on our life path.
It is nearing the 1 a.m hour and I think I will close this blank page and say goodnight, I think I’ve purged enough thought for tonight.
Goodnight from Montreal.
It is always exciting to find that sneaker that you have been searching for for weeks and months. Although they aren’t the colorway I wanted originally, I still bought the shoes this morning, as they were the last pair on the market.
I’ve been seeing them pop up on Tumblr and after exhaustive searches I finally found them on Ebay. They just popped up on the seller page one night and today I bought them.
These are the Adidas Court Raider Mid sneaker. In Red, Black, Grey and White. The original shoes were of the Blue colorway.
The Court Raider may just look like another retro inspired sneaker, but its actually a new model from Adidas. Meshing the forum, attitude and top ten, this leather and mesh sneaker makes a statement with it’s bold colors, and the old school Adidas logo detail on tongue and heel. Style G06065.
The pricing on these was moderate at $63.95 plus $29.00 for shipping. That was the one drawback, shipping. You always get slammed on international shipping. But hey, when in Rome … I like them – they are sweet sneaks …

Sweet shoes … Once again the hunt began on Tumblr and ended up with a Google search and onto a retail seller online. They aren’t listed on Ebay, I checked.
I have my Adidas Response Wrestling shoes Blue White Gold in the pike coming via Canada Post in the next couple of days. They shipped on the 18th.
I am getting quite savvy at finding shoes on a Google search with the side bar search parameters that Google gives you when you do a product search. I had never used it before and it was quite efficient in helping me narrow down the parameters for my shoe search.
Stay tuned to see what happens next… SUH-WEET !!!
The other night on Discovery Science they showed a “show” about Sneakers and the BIG business they generate world wide. From how they are designed and made and why sneakers are a special commodity. It isn’t just a simple “I think we’ll make some sneakers. Let’s do this …
No, lots of design and thought go into the shoes we wear by men and women who go to great pain and art to design the perfect shoe for every foot. It even gets scientific. Scientists study feet, on high end test machines to determine what kind of shoes you really need because of how your feet are formed and what kind of shoe you need.
I am of the mind that one can never have too many shoes. Some of them I wear, and some of them I collect. Some of them come and go on Ebay because I am a keen collector of the best shoes on the market.
They had a segment on the “Bodega.” An underground, word of mouth, secret store, they are far and few between located in certain cities around the world. They deal in HIGH END sneakers and only invite those who know about it to partake in the mega business of shoe buying and selling. It was fantabulous.
I am always on the lookout for the next big score. Social media plays an integral part in getting the word out about this business. Shoe companies produce specialty shoes only sent to those “specialty stores” and not for the open market.
One off’s or Two off’s. And you would never know where that shoe came from or how many are out there and it is a buyers market for all things shoes. This is a multi-million dollar enterprise.
There are even graffiti artists and music jammers and artists by trade that make and influence how shoes are made, styled and sold. There are special underground shoe events held in key cities around the globe to show off these new creations. Shoes that are not available for mass consumption. And IF by chance you get to one of these events, you too could score a really great pair of shoes that the general public will never get to buy. And have never seen before.
Tumblr is a great vehicle for product placement. People share images of fashion, shoes, art, and jewelry, tattoos, and piercings. They run the gamut. I might see something come across the wire and then I go on a hunt for a certain product. Which leads to an “Alice in Wonderland” hunt down the rabbit hole to find a purveyor of whatever I am looking for.
Like the Nike high Dunks. I saw them in an image that is on the blog. I wanted a pair and I started with a Google search for a photo. Which lead to a website, which led to a store that sells high end sneakers. Those One Off’s you might never see anywhere else. Usually if they are on a website, for sale, there is a good chance that they will appear on Ebay. I’ve had huge success with cross referencing website sold merchandise over to Ebay site sales.
And usually the prices on Ebay are at least 10 percent cheaper than website sales and shipping is usually cheaper as well. So you get a deal.
A few weeks ago I was walking through Westmount Square and I was in the tunnel going to a meeting and I always look to see what kind of kicks people are wearing because you never know when you are going to see something you like. And this guy was wearing the same Nike High Dunks, which leads me to believe that high end sneakers are available here in Montreal.
There are numerous shoe stores in the city, in the malls and in these small hole in the wall shops that sell “one off” shoes amid souvenirs and hockey jerseys. It would take forever to find a specialty shop in the city without a Google reference.
Google is a great tool when you want to find something particular IF there is an image of it in the data base. Because usually an image will lead you to a source. But not necessarily in the city you live in. I’ve never tracked a product to this city in particular.
Which leads me all the way back around to another purchase. I am a huge fan of the Adidas Response wrestling shoes. I wear them at the gym, they are stylish and comfortable. I own 4 pair in varying colors and styles. The ones pictured above are on my radar because I once owned a pair of these at one time, but for some stupid reason I decided to sell them on Ebay a couple of years ago.
Now you know, that certain shoes are only made for a certain season. Wrestling shoes come out every fall. And every year the haul differs by maker, style, colorway and price. Adidas had their hey day over the last few wrestling seasons and the response line that I collect has since been retired. They aren’t making these style of shoes any more. And they are very hard to come by unless you find a source and pay a hefty price for them. The shops I buy from don’t carry the response line that I like and only carry a handful of colorways on clearance prices. The new responses are very different than these.
I had, over the last year, seen this same exact pair go up on the Ebay Market for $250.00 a pair.
Now, the only wrestling shoe that I know of that commands that kind of price are any of the Sydney E.Q.T 2000 wrestling shoes in several colorways. The grey and blue, the Olympic Gold white and blue and the Olympic Silver and Blue colorways. A few years ago I scored a pair of Sydney Golds. When I turned them around and put them on the market for sale I got $250.00 for them. Athletes pay top dollar for high performance shoes for their tournaments.
The other day I was hunting. And I came across a steal. These same Adidas Response Blue/White colorway were for sale for a nominal price. A price that I paid retail for a few years back for the same shoe. They are a one off bid. And only one pair available in several different sizes and they carry a couple of different colorways that aren’t made any longer.
Like I said, the line was retired.
So tomorrow when the bids close, I will have scored a brand new pair of responses for $55.00 U.S. plus shipping. Which is a hefty deal since these shoes can now run, for collectors, in the hundreds of dollars each.
One must be wiley when it comes to Ebay. You might get a hit one week, and not see another hit for months or even a year’s time. You start looking around the end of September and the beginning of October for wrestling shoes from the odd seller here or there, because they sometimes put on offer, shoes you can’t find anywhere else. And you can usually get your hands on a great pair of shoes for a deal.
I don’t shop retail locally for the most part. Most of my shoe collection came by way of Ebay or the odd store I shop from online. From work boots, to combat boots, to sneakers, to winter boots. The last time I made a shoe purchase here in the city I paid upwards of $150.00 for a pair of 20 hole Dock Martens in a specialty shop here in the city. And I rarely wear them except in the winter when it snows.
Wrestling season is upon us and the new styles and colorways are out on the market. The new styles are sleek, colorful and come in a varying style of shoe both on the Adidas and Asics market. If you are looking for a deal then this is the time to go looking for them.
Specialty stores have colorways that can’t be found anyplace else so be on the lookout for that special shoe you want. And they are usually a One Off sale.
So that is my missive on High End shoes…

It has been an uneventful couple of days. I am furiously trying to read through “What is Gnosticism” for class, I think I am sixty pages in of a 245 page read. God give me strength. There is rain in the forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully the kiddies won’t get wet. It will be nippy out, but no snow (yet).
Ghost to Ghost is on Saturday night with Ian Punnett on Coast to Coast. It will be an exciting show, as this is the first time that Ian has the show. There will be tricks and treats …
So I won these the other day, and today I paid for them. Woo Hoo !!!
Dinner is cooking, got to go…
More to come, stay tuned …
Nothing gives me more joy than to find a real deal on Ebay. This shoe retails for more than $75.00 US – And I got a pair for $31.00 plus a nominal shipping fee, much less than had I paid retail for them. YAY !!!
It was a hit and miss day on Tuesday. I woke up late, but I had an agenda for the day. I had to return some phone calls from some of my fellow ministry students – the Monsignor seems to be MIA … I called his office and spoke to his secretary who told me to email her my final paper at 40 pages and that she would print it out for him. So that’s what I did. Now I am waiting on the Monsignor to contact me to do my final oral interview.
I totally missed class and it wasn’t until about 4 o’clock that it dawned on me what day it was. I was that out of it. It’s all good. I have those days every once in a while. Since my leaving the meeting I have been getting used to the dynamic shift in my life.
We went out for dinner tonight which was a nice treat. We went to McDonald’s and we stuffed ourselves sick. At least hubby was sick after the belt feeding he did… ugh !!!!
I have to finish writing 2 more papers one for AHSC and one for NT studies.
Stay tuned, more to come later…
It’s late Monday night as I write this. It has been snowing for hours now and there is a nice layer of clean white snow on the ground. More snow is on the way for the rest of the week.
I scored a great deal on Ebay tonight. First Generation Sydney EQT Wrestling shoes from the 2000 Sydney Olympics, which you can’t get on the open market any more. For the seasoned collector these are a coup. They fetch upwards of $200.00 a pair and sometimes more. I watched a similar pair run upwards of $350.00 on Ebay this past week, I did not pay that much for my pair. But they were steep. I almost lost the auction, I guess the people who were bidding against me did not have the desire to pump their bids further. That makes me the winner…
There is not much going on in my world. But I have been enjoying reading the holiday celebrations of some of my blogger friends. Not having a lot of family does not give up the occasion to celebrate Christmas and Boxing day (Second Christmas in Australia). It has been fairly quiet here, we’ve basically been home bodies for the last few days, eating the leftovers from the huge turkey I baked on Christmas. Dinner was a hit, but Hot Turkey Sandwiches after midnight are the real stars.
Tomorrow, (today) is Tuesday… I will have more to write after my home group meeting this evening. The snow birds have begun their exodus to the warmer climes of Florida for the rest of the Winter. So we are down a few members now until April.
I’ll see you all later today…

You who live safe
In your warm houses,
You who find, returning in the evening,
Hot food and friendly faces:
Consider if this is a man
Who works in the mud
Who does not know peace
Who fights for a scrap of bread
Who dies because of a yes and a no.
Consider if this is a woman,
Without hair and without name
With no more strength to remember,
Her eyes empty and her womb cold
Like a frog in winter
Meditate that this came about:
I commend these words to you.
Carve them in your hearts
At Home, in the street,
Going to bed, rising;
Repeat them to your children,
Or may your house fall apart,
May illness impede you,
May your children turn their faces from you.

I remember that night. It was a Sunday (August 31st 1997). I mean, it was late Saturday night going into Sunday morning, if memory serves. I was home, sitting in front of the television watching the late news when the report came across. I was stunned to say the least. For me, during those years, Diana was my champion, someone who knew me, who understood me, someone who would speak kindly of me, and those like me.
I got dressed and walked up to “Cheers” which was a bar around the corner from home that I used to party at over the years. I got into the DJ booth and we turned the SAT tv on to World News, the music stopped, drinks were dropped and everyone in the bar stood there watching the news as it came across live from World News Outlets like CNN and the BBC. The night never recovered.
My friend Annie, an ex-pat from the UK lived two doors down from me and we sat up all night watching the news. I had an outdoor area in front of my apartment where I set up a shrine to Diana – and everyone in my building stopped by the leave flowers and a candle.
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love:
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
Gustav Holst (1874-1934) – Cecil Spring-Rice (1859-1918)
We rose early on the morning of the funeral for Diana Princess of Wales. We wept and we sang sitting there in my apartment that morning. Diana, the People’s Princess will never be forgotten.
