Fade to Black …

Such a gifted entertainer. But in the end it was the drink/drugs that killed her.
Eternal rest grant her and may perpetual light shine upon her.

LONDON (Reuters) – Amy Winehouse, one of the most talented singers of her generation whose hit song “Rehab” summed up her struggles with addiction, died in London on Saturday at the age of 27.

The Grammy winner, famed for her black beehive hair, soulful voice and erratic behaviour on and off stage, was found dead at her new home in Camden a month after a shambolic performance in Serbia forced her to cancel her entire European tour.

Police were called to the address at around 1500 GMT and nearly five hours later the body was removed for a post mortem after it appeared she had lost her battle with drink and drugs.

“Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death,” said police superintendent Raj Kohli. “At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained and there have been no arrests in connection with the incident.”

He said reports that Winehouse had died of a suspected drugs overdose were speculation at this stage.

Family members had long warned that Winehouse’s lifestyle, which saw her in and out of rehab and blighted her career as a live and recording artist, could be her downfall.

— Boat skippered by late Captain Phil Harris returns w/ Josh and Jake Harris on board —

October 4, 2010

Silver Spring, Md.) – Discovery Channel President and General Manager Clark Bunting announced F/V Cornelia Marie, the crab fishing vessel that late Captain Phil Harris called home, will return with deckhands Josh and Jake Harris to fish the icy Bering Sea as DEADLIEST CATCH begins filming its seventh season.

“Our Dad made a tremendous connection with so many fans and it is such a fitting tribute to his life that we, his sons, can remain fishing on the boat that he skippered for so many years” said Josh and Jake Harris.

Josh and Jake head to Dutch Harbor, Alaska for the beginning of king crab fishing series and the start of production on DEADLIEST CATCH in mid-October. Captain Derrick Ray, who stepped in as relief skipper last winter following Captain Phil’s stroke, returns as captain along with engineer Steve Ward, and deckhands Freddie Maughtai and Ryan Simpson.

“We are excited to be once again working with Discovery Channel and Original Productions.  I know Captain Phil would be happy to know the crew is back in business,” said F/V Cornelia Marie principal owner Cornelia Devlin.

DEADLIEST CATCH is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Productions. Thom Beers, Jeff Conroy, Matt Renner are executive producers. For Discovery Channel, Paul Gasek and Tracy Rudolph are executive producers.

Turning to the Bottle …

Knowing these events happened months ago, I am commenting on them as they happened tonight. I don’t know how Jake deals with this in the long run, just some reflections from one addict to another.

I am hating the U.S. networks right now. You people got the last episodes of Deadliest Catch tonight. And After the Catch. And an entire night of Deadliest Catch… BOO YAHH!!! Here in Canada, we lag one week behind you. With the Cain and Abel episode tonight on Discovery Canada.

The scene is sad. Phil is on the doorstep, and Josh is seemingly in control, and Jake has turned to his devices to cope with this tragedy. He is much older than I was when I faced the same situation with my grandmother, who had a massive stroke when I was 13 years old. My father took me out of school in Florida and flew me to Connecticut to sit shiva by her bedside hoping against hope that I could revel her out of her stupor. That did not happen, and he never forgave me for that.

They say, that you won’t find your solutions in the bottom of the bottle or at the end of a joint or a syringe. I haven’t seen the last episode, but from where I sit tonight, that scene wasn’t getting any better for him at that moment in time. I know what it is like to loose family at a young age. This will define both the boys for the rest of their lives. And how they walk away from this experience will shape the kind of men they become for the rest of time. We can only hope and pray for them now.

The Jake of Cornelia Marie and the Jake on the Northwestern, what a tragic story. I don’t know how the other Jake’s story is going to turn out, or if we get a resolution in the final episode. I pray for all of them the same. Hopefully clean Jake will stay clean and maybe help Jake Harris along the way as well. One can only hope that he did.

Stay clean and lead Jake out of his despair.

You can’t reason with someone in the depths of despair and sorrow. And Jake is caught in that vice of addiction and pain. There is only one way out, and that is UP out of the bottle and not Down into it.

Knowing that Captain Phil passed some months ago, waiting to see the last episode is gut wrenching. I grew to love the crew of the Cornelia Marie, but didn’t we all. All the crews are part of our lives, for those of us who watch the show religiously. We will have to wait until next week to see the final episode.

They had played commercials up here over the last week about a two hour finale event that was supposed to have taken place tonight, but I guess they were wrong. And yesterday I was checking the feeds and even FaceBook was showing clips and talking about online forums to chat tonight in the U.S. I was pissed when I finally confirmed that we were only getting one episode tonight.

Tonight was my home group meeting. And I was planning my early out for the night to come home and watch tv, and I began to foment a really harsh resentment on some members of the group because as of late, it has only been Rick and I carrying both meetings. Me doing set up and conversion, then chairing the late meeting, while Rick and I have been head hunting around the city for speakers week in and week out. We can’t seem the attract keepers to our meeting.

An old timer brought a few friends to the meeting tonight and at the end of the meeting as I was counting the kitty, he came up to me and asked how I was doing. They know we are busting our asses to keep that meeting afloat on our own. And I told him that as long as we can pay the rent, the meeting will continue. And he said to me, that I should keep this attitude going. To stay positive.

We have a freshie chairing the early meeting, and he is a punk ass smart ass junkie with an attitude and tonight I was in no mood to deal with his shit. It was pouring cats. dogs and little fishes. People were all late, our regulars did not show tonight. And all I wanted to do was to split as soon as I could. My watch was running fast, his Iphone was set to computer time, and I was like, any day now, when my watch said 6:35, and he smarted off “well my phone only says 6:29. I was like, give me smart mouth, bitch … I was a little testy.

After the meeting he did not hang to set up or chat. He went on his merry ass way, thank god for small miracles. We had a good crew show up for the later meeting. And we hauled a good chunk of kitty at the end of the night. At least we are paying rent and keeping our prudent reserve up.

The night was not a wasted. The speaker we heard was amazing. She had a compelling story of addiction, loss, grief and redemption. Stuff you can’t buy for free. There are some people you just have to get to know better. The longer I stay sober the more I want to get to know some people who come to visit us, that don’t get to visit us on a regular basis. So you take every good moment you can get in between break down and walk out.

Louise is on the mend. She has been out and about so the healing has begun. Hopefully she will be home in a few weeks time. Let us pray.

That is all for now, it is after midnight and time for me time.

More to come, stay tuned.

I will have a complete write up about Deadliest Catch next week when they air the final episode and After the Catch here in Canada. Until then.

Lost, finally …

Did you get it? Are you lost now?

So as I understand it, the island happened. And everyone had their experiences. Some did not make it off the island, and some did. But in the end everyone dies. And it took the realization of what they really lived, with each other to bring them to the church at the end of the episode.

Kings July 18th – The New King Pt. 1 …

jack-2-kings

I missed last weeks episode of Kings and I did not watch it online yet. So this weeks review is going to be rough. Jack was in hiding from King Silas. David is in prison, sentenced to die by firing squad. Michelle is not to be trusted because of what must have happened that David ended up in prison.

The queen has a conversation with Silas about her son Jack. There is no love lost there, the king does not love Jack, but for all intents and purposes – he is the next in line to succeed the throne. And as she said, there would be no Silas without the backing of the queen and entourage…

Jack returns to the Palace and we find the family together as Port Prosperity is to be given to Gath. There ceremony and pomp is about to take place. But not before Silas degrades Jack. Jack returns to beg the kings forgiveness, Silas is not himself, and he tells Jack to kneel, and to kiss the ground the king walks upon, saying “Your mouth has been in dirtier places…” Jack obeys cringing as he approaches the floor.

Now, the King’s brother in law, and his son Andrews (McCauley Culkin) are up to no good. When the King meets Gath to sign over territory they are seen up on the balcony plotting. Jack is to make some move against the king. One citizen hurls shoes at the king and calls him a murdrer. How very “ripped from the pages of politics” then a man with a gun begins to shoot the entourage on stage. Jack is shot, and King Silas is shot, as Jack tries to push his father out of the way.

Cut to prison, where David is having a conversation with the exiled king about life and then he is being taken away to the mount to be killed by guard and a firing squad. David says he only worked for peace… As the gunners are preparing their shots, they are all shot dead by some snipers in the bushes. David is saved … but by who???

david-and-the-king

The King is whisked away by ambulance, but to where? Jack takes his place at court as the next in line, but that is not to happen. With a captive audience the queens brother has alliances with the military and tries to stage a coup. For the moment Jack is kept from ascending the throne.

We come to find out that Jack is responsible for saving Davids life and they embrace in the palace and Jack tells David that he is “trustworthy.” The Queen’s brother is told that Silas has disappeared from the ambulance, and sort of goes crazy. He wants to know where Silas went and if he is still alive. Since the media is reporting that he is dead.

Michelle takes David to a secret passage to get out of the palace – nobody but the family know about this passageway. But alas, the weasel “Andrew” is within earshot of their conversation so now he knows as well. David escapes from the palace to find the king. He knows where Silas has gone on pilgrimage…

To the stables and the bed of his mistress and illigitimate son…

David walks in on the king as he lies in bed, and Silas says he is no longer king, and David looses his freak calling the king “You SOB – I trusted you and served you – you are the king and you will get up and do something…” David is clearly not himself because of the way he is talking to Silas …

So Jack is waiting in the wings. Silas is still alive, David survived his death sentance, and the brother is law is up to no good with his son Andrew. What will happen next???

Stay tuned for more Kings, next week.

Michael Jackson Dies

michael-jackson(10)

Posted Jun 25th 2009 5:20PM by TMZ Staff

We’ve just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

We’re told one of the staff members at Jackson’s home called 911.

LaToya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.

King of Pop Michael Jackson is dead: report

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Michael Jackson, the child star turned King of Pop who set the world dancing to exuberant rhythms for decades, died on Thursday, the Los Angeles Times said. He was 50.

“Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times,” the newspaper reported on its website.

Jackson had been taken ill at his home and found not breathing by paramedics who rushed him to a hospital, the paper said.

The paper’s report followed news of Jackson’s death first reported by the TMZ entertainment website, which said that the singer suffered a cardiac arrest. There was no immediate comment from spokespersons for Jackson.

Known as the “King of Pop,” for hits that included “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” Jackson’s dramatic stage presence and innovative dance moves were imitated by legions of fans around the world.

His one-gloved eccentric style also earned him plenty of critics and another nickname, “Wacko Jacko.”

Jackson, who had lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation, had been scheduled to launch a comeback tour from London next month.

TMZ said on its website that Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. “We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back,” the site said.

Earlier, the Los Angeles Times said the singer had been rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital by fire department paramedics. The newspaper said paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the singer’s home before taking him to the UCLA Medical Center hospital.

COMEBACK CONCERTS

Jackson had been due to start a series of concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within minutes of going on sale in March.

His lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.

There were concerns about Jackson’s health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors.

New Yorkers and tourists in the city’s Times Square were shocked at the news of Jackson’s death.

“I don’t know what to say. It’s sad, it’s really, really sad,” said Nicole Smith, an 18-year-old student from Brooklyn, New York, in Times Square. “My mother was a fan. I listened to his music.”

“I’m shocked. I thought someone was lying to me when I first heard it. I was a fan from when he was a little boy and then he got weird,” said Sue Sheider, 51, a teacher from Long Island.

CHILD STAR TO MEGASTAR

Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, the seventh of nine children. Five Jackson boys — Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael — first performed together at a talent show when Michael was 6. They walked off with first prize and went on to become a best-selling band, The Jackson Five, and then The Jackson 5.

Jackson made his first solo album in 1972, and released “Thriller” in 1982, which became a smash hit that yielded seven top-10 singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide.

The next year, he unveiled his signature “moonwalk” dance move while performing “Billie Jean” during an NBC special.

In 1994, Jackson married Elvis Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1996. Jackson married Debbie Rowe the same year and had two children, before splitting in 1999. The couple never lived together.

Jackson has three children named Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II, known for his brief public appearance when his father held him over the railing of a hotel balcony, causing widespread criticism.

Farrah Fawcett, 1970s sex symbol, dies aged 62

farah faucett

By Jill Serjeant – Reuters News Service

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actress Farrah Fawcett, the “Charlie’s Angels” television star whose big smile and feathered blond mane made her one of the reigning sex symbols of the 1970s, died on Thursday after a long battle with cancer. She was 62.

Fawcett, first vaulted to stardom by an alluring poster of her in a red swimsuit, was diagnosed with anal cancer in late 2006. It spread to her liver in 2007, proving resistant to numerous medical treatments in Germany and California.

“After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away,” Fawcett’s long time companion, actor Ryan O’Neal, said in a statement.

“Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world.”

Fawcett’s death in a Los Angeles hospital came just six weeks after the TV broadcast in May of a video diary she made chronicling her battle with cancer and her final months.

Called “Farrah’s Story,” the documentary was effectively a self-penned obituary by the actress, who was bedridden and had lost her famous hair by the time it was shown.

O’Neal said she had wanted to tell her story on her own terms.

Fawcett’s close friend Alana Stewart, ex-wife of rocker Rod Stewart, told Entertainment Tonight after leaving the hospital on Thursday; “I just lost my best friend. Her death was very peaceful.”

Fawcett, born February 2, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, was an art student in college before she began modeling, appearing in shampoo ads.

She started guest-starring on TV in the late 1960s and appeared on the television hit “The Six Million Dollar Man” after marrying the show’s star, Lee Majors, in 1974. The couple divorced in the early 1980s.

Judgment Day…

kings1-copy_0

Ethan Shepherd, David’s brother is on trial for treason against the crown, and King Silas has the ability to make judgment upon him. This episode finds David fighting for his brother and the King finds himself in tough territory.

Judgment day finds ten cases that are chosen by a committee to be heard directly by the king and adjudicated by him. We also find that Jack is having issues with obscurity and jealousy. The infighting of the siblings is of great importance for this episode. Jack does not want to find himself being pushed into obscurity by a possible marriage between the princess and David. It seem that Jack has a serious case of “what about me?”

Jack tells his sister, “What good is power if one doesn’t use it?”

kingsreviewimg9

At eight bells, Judgment day commences. One of the cases up for review is the case of the doctor who treated Silas’s secret son, and his mistress gets up as a character for the defense. As we know, Silas has to turn his face from his relationship with his mistress [in the last episode] and King Silas judges the doctor [ who has had a hit and run drunk driving case with fatality] and sentences him to serve his full prison term, even if the doctor has saved the king’s son over the past little while. The king has turned his face from people who have been instrumental in saving a son’s life. And he has turned from his mistress who appears openly in this episode. The king’s double life is exposed in open court here.

David finds himself at odds with the princess, and is told by Jack’s office that if he wants to save his brother he has to denounce the king and say that he doesn’t have faith in him and that the king has led people astray. And we know that David is not going to speak out against his king, though try as he might, David keeps making the case for his brother, even if the king has bestowed upon his the medal for Valor.

jack

Jack is in rare form in fighting to make sure that Ethan is made an example of and he has an agenda to push forwards. In a brief encounter Jack comes home and his personal guard speaks about watching Jack all day and jack responds with this quip “well you don’t have to stop now” as they face each other in the street. Jack goes on the say that “he has someone that he can trust on his side.” Is there more to read into this brief discussion between men?

jack-2-kings

As the episode comes to an end the king has made some movement on the case of Ethan Shepherd who has been sentanced to death on the following morning for his crimes against the crown. The episode comes to a head when David stands with Silas and is told that his brother has been moved and will serve a six month sentence and if he learns from his mistakes and keeps his mouth shut he will be ok.

david-and-the-king

David is moved beyond words and hugs the king who does not return the embrace. All of Jack manipulation has failed in the end, David wins a lighter sentence and saves his brother’s life and the king has made another judgment and saves Ethan from death.

The closing portion of the episode finds the princess facing David at his home where she tells him that He is in her heart but that nothing further can happen which leads David to ask her if she felt the same way about him as he feels about her. Obviously there is chemistry between them, and Jack sees this and the princess states quite painfully that she can’t continue this dalliance with David because she is promised to someone else.

Fade to black…

What do we have here:

  • King Silas has made several judgments on the cases chosen.
  • David has won his brother’s life in the end
  • Jack is terribly jealous that he will be forgotten or overlooked in the future
  • There is a double standard being exercised in the lives of the King’s extramarital affairs with the doctor and his mistress
  • The Princess still pines over David, yet she is promised to someone else
  • And there is a possibility that Jack is having extra curricular activities with his staff – one can never second guess him, he is always scheming and playing around in the dark on the down low.
  • David cannot bring himself to speak against the king and that loyalty has paid off the David in the end
  • We also saw the return of the Kings nephew Andrew [played by Macaulay Culkin] who is seen having a conversation with the King at table when they talk about Andrew’s banishment from the kingdom, I guess they are adding guest stars to the series now
  • There is a relationship moving between the King and David in their discussion about God. David admits during the episode that he might not know about god or believe, until the king spares his brother Ethan, and David says to the king, “I wasn’t sure how God works, but God works through you [King Silas]
  • The well written script is delivered quite well by the actors and brings an air of proper erudition on the part of David and King Silas. Ian McShane is in rare form as King Silas.

What happens next?
Stay tuned to Kings on NBC next Saturday night at 8 p.m.

Majel Roddenberry, widow of ‘Trek’ creator, dies

Obit Majel Roddenberry

LOS ANGELES – Majel Barrett Roddenberry, “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry’s widow who nurtured the legacy of the seminal science fiction TV series after his death, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry died of leukemia Thursday morning at her home in Bel-Air, said Sean Rossall, a family spokesman.

At Roddenberry’s side were family friends and her son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr.

Roddenberry was involved in the “Star Trek” universe for more than four decades. She played the dark-haired Number One in the original pilot but metamorphosed into the blond, miniskirted Nurse Christine Chapel in the original 1966-69 show. She had smaller roles in all five of its television successors and many of the “Star Trek” movie incarnations, although she had little involvement in the productions.

She frequently was the voice of the ship’s computer, and about two weeks ago she completed the same role for the upcoming J.J. Abrams movieStar Trek,” Rossall said.

Roddenberry also helped keep the franchise alive by inspiring fans and attended a major “Star Trek” convention each year, Rossall said.

“I think `Star Trek’ will always be her legacy,” Rossall said.

“Star Trek” and its successors often focused on political and philosophical issues of the day. Roddenberry and her husband, who died in 1991, believed in creating “thoughtful entertainment” and were proud of the show and the passionate devotion of its fans, Rossall said.

“My mother truly acknowledged and appreciated the fact that `Star Trek’ fans played a vital role in keeping the Roddenberry dream alive for the past 42 years. It was her love for the fans, and their love in return, that kept her going for so long after my father passed away,” her son said in a statement on the official Roddenberry Web site.

Born Majel Lee Hudec on Feb. 23, 1932, in Cleveland, she began taking acting classes as a child. She had some stage roles, then in the late 1950s and 1960s had bit parts in a few movies and small roles in TV series, including “Leave It to Beaver” and “Bonanza.”

She met her husband in 1964 during a guest role for a Marine Corps drama he produced called “The Lieutenant.” That same year, she was cast in the pilot for the “Star Trek” series as the no-nonsense second-in-command. The pilot did not appeal to NBC executives and a second pilot was made, although parts of the original later showed up in a two-part episode called “The Menagerie.”

The couple married in Japan in 1969 after “Star Trek” was canceled. After her husband’s death, Roddenberry continued her involvement with the “Star Trek” franchise.

She also was the executive producer for two other TV science fiction series, “Andromeda” and “Earth: Final Conflict.”

Gifts in the mail…

I went down to check the mail earlier and this is what I found.

There were 2 discs in the case and I duped them into my system. The mix CD is really great. There are 16 tracks on the remix Cd and 14 tracks on disc 2. You should go visit No Milk and see what he has to say. You can find DJ Evil Twin in the sidebar on his blog.

The vocals remind me of Everything but the Girl… The music on some tracks is really Deep House mix style music stuff that I would play on any given T-Dance on a Sunday. I could imagine this music being played in a dance hall. I can paint the music with light as I listen to it from my old days as a Dance Hall Light Man.

Yes definitely Deep House Mixes…
